A field visit and cooperation between the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, represented by the Central Radiation Laboratory of the Radiation Protection Department, hosted the expert of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr. Kabour Lafranco, within the framework of technical cooperation between the State of Qatar and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), from 4 – 8 September 2022.

 

The visit aimed to review the efficiency of working in all gamma-ray measurement systems in the laboratory, as well as train employees on the latest methods used in measurement, analysis of results, and writing reports, in addition to documenting information and preparing documents for the quality management program by ISO 17025.

 

It is worth noting that the visit comes within the framework of developing the radiological measurements system at the Central Radiological Laboratory, in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) during the next four years through national technical cooperation projects, given that the laboratory represents the technical pillar and reference laboratory for the state, to conduct radiological measurements in all environmental models, in addition to providing technical support for many relevant national projects, and establishing the ecological system for monitoring radionuclides, the radiological map of the state, the early warning system and preparedness and response to nuclear and radiological emergencies.
