The Natural Reserves Department is responsible for the following:

  1. Lay down and develop plans for the management of natural reserves, in coordination with the competent authorities.

  2. Suggest legislative tools related to natural reserves, and follow up on their implementation after issuance.

  3. Conduct studies and evaluate proposals for new reserves’ sites, and expanding existing natural reserve sites.

  4. Supervise the management of rehabilitation and propagation of wildlife in natural reserves in coordination with the competent authorities.

  5. Establish a database and information for natural reserves, including the types and numbers of fungal organisms.

  6. Issue permits to enter and visit natural reserves.

  7. Prepare and implement programs for the conservation and development of biodiversity and wildlife in natural reserves.

  8. Combat encroachments and violations against wildlife and natural areas in natural reserves, in cooperation and coordination with the competent authorities.

  9. Provide health, food care and immunizations for animals and fungal organisms within natural reserves, in cooperation and coordination with the competent authorities.

  10. Monitor and protect land and marine reserves (islands), supervise them and control environmental violations that fall within their scope.

  11. Suggest programs for replanting gardens, pastures and natural areas with wild plants, rehabilitate and preserve them from desertification, in coordination with the concerned administrative units.

  12. Preserve the living resources and ecosystems in the reserves, and prepare plans and programs for their protection, in coordination with the concerned departments.​
