Al Reem Reserve:

Al Reem Biosphere Reserve is considered one of the most important protected areas in the State of Qatar, both locally and internationally. The reserve was established by Decision No. (7) of 2005, as a protected area of unique natural significance, accompanied by important historical and cultural values.

The overarching goal of the Al Reem Biosphere Reserve is: “To protect and conserve key ecosystems and associated cultural values, as they represent the natural heritage of the State of Qatar. This is achieved through a participatory approach that enhances national ownership, establishes a framework for sustainable resource management, supports awareness and education, and preserves the right of future generations to enjoy their country's natural and cultural heritage."

Overview of the Reserve: Al Reem Reserve is in the northwest of the State of Qatar and covers approximately 10% of the country's total land area. It lies about 65 kilometers west of Doha. The reserve is distinguished by its prominent limestone formations along the western coast, its abundance of meadows and its wide plant cover.
