Al Sheehaniya Reserve was the first natural reserve established in the State of Qatar in 1979. It is in the Al Sheehaniya area, about 45 kilometers from Doha central Qatar. The reserve covers an area of 12 square kilometers and has been designated as a special reserve for the breeding of the endangered Arabian oryx. The reserve also includes an enclosure for housing ostriches. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is making significant efforts to preserve and develop the reserve, as part of its vision to expand eco-tourism. These efforts contribute to achieving Qatar’s National Environment and Climate Change Strategy, which includes the release of gazelles and Arabian oryx into the reserve and ensuring their care and protection.
