​Irkaya Reserve is located about 50 km from Salwa Road, west of Doha, in the central southern plain of Qatar. It covers an area of approximately 1,200 hectares divided into 20 sections. The Cabinet, during its regular meeting on November 12, 2014, approved the

designation of the Irkaya area as a protected reserve.

The reserve's importance comes from being a key stopover for migratory birds, as it lies on the migration route to and from Qatar. The area is planted with green fodder such as alfalfa, Rhodes grass, and forage barley, irrigated using a drip irrigation system.​
