This morning, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, paid a visit to the Qatar Science and Technology Park, affiliated with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. The purpose of the visit was to become acquainted with and understand the efforts of companies operating under it, within the framework of environmental conservation and achieving sustainable development through solar energy, as well as reducing carbon footprints of production methods.

He was accompanied during the visit by Mr. Youssef Al-Saleh, the Executive Director of Qatar Science and Technology Park, who welcomed him, along with several leaders from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. The tour included the Qatar Shell Research and Technology Center, the Total Solar Research Center, and the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) for building sustainability and carbon footprint reduction.

During the tour, His Excellency the Minister of Environment and Climate Change listened to a detailed explanation about the efforts of Qatar Science and Technology Park and the collaborating companies in developing technological means and techniques that contribute to Qatar’s national strategy for the environment and climate change. He also received an explanation about the research conducted at the Total Solar Research Center, aimed at achieving sustainable development in areas such as solar energy, biological monitoring (‘Water Quality Assessment’), biodiversity, carbon capture, storage, and utilization.

He also familiarized himself with the research conducted at Shell’s Center for developing and adding value to liquefied gas products in the Pearl project. He learned about the sustainability efforts focused on water usage in the project. The visit also included an overview of the research efforts of other research centers within various companies, aiming to preserve the environment, reduce carbon emissions, achieve carbon reduction, and work towards sustainable development across all sectors in the state of Qatar.

The purpose of the visit was to understand the potential and efforts of these research centers, with the intention of exploring avenues for future cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the research centers operating at Qatar Science and Technology Park. Additionally, the visit aimed to learn about ways of exchanging scientific expertise and training human resources in the same field.
The visit aligns with the vision of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, which recognizes the importance of understanding the research and efforts of national institutions in the field of environment. It aims to leverage scientific research for the benefit of all stakeholders, unifying collaborative efforts among all state entities to achieve Qatar’s national vision for the environment and climate change.
