The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is conducting a four-day campaign to rehabilitate the ‘Arida’ area

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change conducted a campaign today, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, to clean up and rehabilitate the Arida area from the waste of cabins and camping activities in nearby areas.

In this context, Mr. Hamad Salim Al Nuaimi, the Director of Wildlife Protection Department, clarified that the campaign accomplished cleaning and rehabilitating over 60% of the Arida area on its first day. The campaign began its work this Wednesday morning and will continue for three days until the following Sunday, excluding holidays which include Friday and Saturday. The campaign took place in the presence of environmental security forces from ‘Lekhwiya,’ with the participation of a number of ministry personnel and more than 30 workers. Heavy equipment was used to transport the waste to the waste treatment center in Mesaieed.

Mr. Hamad Al Nuaimi pointed out that the rehabilitated area is a flat salty marsh area, located just 3 kilometers away from the beach. It is not designated for camping activities, but it is close to camping areas and beaches, making it a site for the disposal of camping waste and beachgoers’ litter. He noted that the campaign is part of the efforts of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to protect the local environment from all types and sources of pollution, which lead to the loss of the state’s natural resources.

He emphasized that the campaign contributes to raising environmental awareness among all segments of society, highlighting the crucial importance of awareness-raising activities in protecting the local environment. We consider these activities as the initial steps in preserving the local environment, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of individuals avoiding behaviors that harm and destroy the environment. This is an urgent necessity at the present time. The ministry aims through its campaigns to elevate the level of societal awareness regarding environmental issues and to instill a sense of individual and collective responsibility for preserving Qatar’s natural resources. It also aims to promote behaviors that support environmental sustainability among various individuals and segments of society, especially campers and beachgoers.
