The Ministry of Environment participates in cleaning seabed

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, represented by the Marine Protection Department, participated in an initiative to clean the seabed organized by the Old Doha Port. The initiative succeeded in extracting large quantities of accumulated waste that affects the safety of the marine environment.

Mr. Abdullah Essa Al Khulaifi, Assistant Director of the Marine Protection Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, stated that the ministry’s participation in the initiative aligns with its vision and plans to raise awareness among community members, emphasizing that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility for everyone.

Mr. Abdullah Al Khulaifi also urged all beachgoers and sea enthusiasts to preserve the marine environment by refraining from disposing of any waste that could harm the living organisms inhabiting that environment.

It’s worth noting that the seabed cleaning initiative covered extensive areas along the seafront of the port district, spanning a length of 650 meters and reaching depths ranging between 8 to 11 meters. This included the harbor area in front of the fish market ‘Al Jibara,’ reaching depths ranging between 3 to 5 meters.
Eighteen entities and companies within the country participated in this initiative. The combined efforts of all volunteers contributed to extracting large and heavy waste from the site. The cleaning activities at the location persisted for over 5 hours.
