The Green Development & Environmental Sustainability Department

The Green Development & Environmental Sustainability Department handles the following responsibilities:

1- Propose policies, strategic plans, and executive programs to address the issues and challenges related to green development and environmental sustainability which includes encouraging the use of renewable energy sources, processed water, cleaner production projects, sustainable production, recycling waste and contaminated materials. To that end, the Department is also responsible for following up on the implementation of such programs in coordination with the relevant bodies.

2- Support initiatives on environmental preservation and environmental sustainability in coordination with the relevant bodies.

3- Propose and implement policies, plans, and programs related to the support of involving institutions and local and international stakeholders in the strategies and plans on green development and environmental sustainability.

4- Review and approve green development, renewable energy, eco-friendly programs and projects, as well as develop guides on clean and sustainable development programs.

5- Propose environmental legislative instruments in service of achieving the requirements of green development and environmental sustainability.

6- Partake in raising community-wide environmental awareness on the importance of preserving green growth and expanding green spaces, as well as support the projects and initiatives on clean and renewable energy, and enhance investment in green industries in coordination with the relevant bodies.

7- Develop and implement annual plans and programs in line with the internationally adopted standards for research, and support technology and innovation in service of the priorities of environmental protection and development, and in coordination with the relevant bodies.

8- Examine the most notable challenges facing environmental protection and sustainability, and propose adequate solutions to said challenges in coordination with the relevant administrative units and bodies.

9- Partake in the organizing events on environmental sustainability as part of the annual sustainable development week in coordination with the relevant administrative units and relevant bodies.

10- Coordinate with the relevant administrative units to demand appropriate fines in order to redress the damages incurred by violations related to the environment, climate change, and environmental sustainability in accordance with the laws in place.

11- Build a partnership between the Ministry and research bodies on all issues pertaining to environmental protection, biodiversity, climate change, and environmental sustainability.

12-Support all eco-friendly practices and uses, including those related to sewage water, industrial water, recycled solid waste, clean energy, and sustainable materials.
