The Land Protection Department

The Land Protection Department handles the following responsibilities:

1- Establish regulations, instructions, and technical guidelines as to how identify the types of violations, breaches, and infringements against land environment, as well as plant and animal biodiversity, and devise an appropriate mechanism to address and limit said offenses in accordance with environmental laws and resolutions.

2- Monitor practices related to littering and disposing of waste in wilderness areas, as well as harmful and unlawful hunting practices and overgrazing and felling. Relatedly, the Department is also responsible for protecting gardens, valleys, and other similar geographies from harmful environmental violations and the impact thereof, as well as detecting violations in accordance with environmental laws and resolutions.

3- Monitor and protect wildernesses in Qatar, and design and implement plans to protect land wildlife in coordination and collaboration with the relevant bodies.

4- Detect environmental violations against wildlife, and refer said violations to the relevant bodies, while also working on removing the roots of such violations.

5- Study and determine which environmental sites are appropriate for camping, and establish rules and conditions for issuing camping permits, as well as any other timed activities in wilderness areas. Furthermore, dictate which practices and activities are permissible as to ensure the protection and sustainability of the environment, and in coordination with the relevant bodies. 

6-Enforce environmental laws, and adhere to the conditions of international treaties on the protection of the wilderness.

7- Monitor any and all sources of damage, as well as practices and activities that might lead to harming the wilderness. To this end, the Department is also responsible for submitting regular reports on such practices, while also cooperating with the relevant bodies to control the source of, and limit said damages.

8- Monitor the environmental situation of the wilderness and any emerging changes, and write reports on such changes.

9- Propose training programs for wilderness inspectors and work towards improving their competence and efficiency.
