The Protection and Wildlife Department

The Protection and Wildlife Department is responsible for the following:

  • Monitor and protect wildlife and marine life in the country, develop and implement plans for its protection, in coordination with the competent authorities.
  • Seize land and marine environmental violations and farm violations, refer them to the competent authorities, and remove the causes of these violations in coordination with the competent authorities.
  • Monitor quarries and crushers, detect violations of the conditions of permits for extraction, transportation landfill and their derivatives, and remove the causes of these violations in coordination with the competent authorities.
  • Detect conditions’ violations of import, export, transport and transit permits for endangered wildlife and their products, and refer them to the competent authorities in the country.
  • Suggest sites for extracting soil, mud, sand, stone materials and their derivatives, and set plans and programs for their extraction.
  • Follow up on the implementation of the state’s obligations, resulting from the signing of regional and international agreements and protocols related to biodiversity and wildlife, to which the state is a party.
  • Prepare studies and research related to biodiversity, and supervise the management of the rehabilitation and propagation of wildlife in coordination with the competent authorities.
  • Issue permits for quarries, crushers and their derivatives, and permits for extraction, transportation of landfill, in coordination with the competent authorities.
  • Approve the issuance of import, export, transfer and transit permits for endangered wildlife and their products across borders, in coordination with the concerned administrative units and relevant authorities.
  • Issue camp permits.
  • Implement the provisions of internal laws and international agreements regarding the protection of the wild, marine and coastal environment, prepare plans, programs and projects for the protection of the wild, marine and coastal environment, and monitor their implementation.
  • Determine all sources of damage and encroachment on the wild, marine and coastal environment and set the necessary plans and programs, to control the sources of encroachment and work to limit them.

Monitor and observes the environmental status of the wild, marine and coastal environment.
