‏H.E. Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, in the Breakfast summit

H.E Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, participated in the Breakfast summit, “Addressing the Existential Threats Posed by Sea-level Rise” at the UN headquarters in New York City, USA.

In his speech at the summit, His Excellency stressed the State of Qatar’s contribution of $100 million USD to support small island developing states, during the 2019 Climate Action Summit. Qatar also signed a non-allocated contribution agreement with the Adaptation Fund, which finances adaptation and resilience programs for the most vulnerable countries to climate change, in addition to the Qatar Fund for Development providing sustainable solutions to enhance the resilience of these countries.

The summit, which brought together a number of heads and ministers and international officials, aimed to mobilize an alliance to ensure that priority is given to small island developing states in the Pacific region in climate action and financing, in order to protect the marine lands of those states from rising sea levels, and to protect their culture and heritage and enhance their social and economic resilience.
